As we head into the new year, the common feel seems to be that everyone is looking for a fresh start, approaching new goals and aspirations with a cheeky sense of confidence and determination. In light of this, we thought we’d share with you one of our personal fashion inspirations, who is the epitome of all things fun and daring whilst proving that a little motivation goes a long way.
Eloise Jaksic is the PR and Online Manager for the Australian label, Shakuhachi, and is a major style icon for Sydney’s local fashion enthusiasts. Far from your typical fashion blogger, she’s the reason we’re all showing off our shoulders this summer and embracing a little height in our strappy wedges. As someone who has been successful within the Fashion industry whilst maintaining her own individual style, this fun, feminine 24 year old is the ultimate inspiration.
I was lucky enough to have a chat to Eloise about her own inspirations, and how she got to be where she is today. Below are some of her words of wisdom, along side a fun shoot we had in her creative stomping ground featuring some of her favourite summer looks. Enjoy!
HOW DID YOU START OUT IN THE FASHION INDUSTRY?
Lots of work experience! I never studied Fashion, but I interned at mags, PR agencies and with fashion designers. I was then lucky enough to gain a job through one of my internships.
WHO ARE YOUR BIGGEST INSPIRATIONS?
Sophia Amoruso, Natalie Massenet, Miroslava Duma, Lena Perminova and Leandra Medine.
WHAT WOULD YOU DO DIFFERENTLY IF YOU COULD START OVER?
Nothing! You shouldn’t think about what you could have done better but how you can grow from where you are now.
WHAT ARE THE MOST VALUABLE LESSONS YOU’VE LEARNT ALONG THE WAY?
Hard work always pays off, and always listen to your peers – they are a wealth of knowledge. Also, Google is a valuable tool!
WHAT PIECES CAN’T YOU LIVE WITHOUT?
I can’t get enough of my Shakuhachi Directional Stripe Bell Sleeve Dress. Oh, and my fine, gold hoop earrings!
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE CURRENT TREND?
I’m definitely having an off the shoulder moment! I’m also loving midi skirts, culottes, trench coats, strappy heels, interesting sandals and raffia. Yes, anything that has raffia on it = obsessed!
WHAT’S IN STORE FOR YOU IN THE FUTURE?
Who knows! I’m still young so the world is really my oyster! For the minute, I absolutely love my job with Shakuhachi.
ANY ADVICE FOR PEOPLE TRYING TO BREAK INTO THE FASHION INDUSTRY?
Definitely take on as many internships in as many different areas of fashion as you can. You will gain an insight into the industry and have a clearer idea of what direction you’d like to go in as well as make great, important contacts. The hands on experience is invaluable. Oh, and work hard.. don’t be afraid to start at the bottom.
