The clubbing scene in Sydney is tough to master…let alone enjoy. Especially if you resent going to seedy Kings Cross like myself, but want to match some great tunes with fun times. So, I have developed a guide, for those wanting a great night out, at the right place that suits you (and your music taste). A club, bar or just a pub in the city, hopefully this guide will give you an insight into the infamous Sydney nightlife, and where you and your crew should be hanging out on the weekends.
If you love to grind on some dude you just met to the newest Chris Brown or Rihanna song, or kiss all your girlfriends just for the insta photo opportunities then The Club, O2, and Home Nightclub are for you. Featuring some gold poles to get your stripper on, small spaces to feel each others sweat, plenty of R’n’B lovers and numerous levels, you’ll have a great time dancing to all the tunes on your iPhone that you already listen to on repeat at home.
If you love Duke Dumont, Caribou, Disclosure and Hayden James, you hate R’n’B, Festivals are what you look forward to each year and you tell everyone you listen to real music not mainstream crap (we’ve all said this), then check out this plan for a fun night out. Rooftop Bars in Sydney are kicking off, so for your pre-drink location try The Bristol Arms Hotel, Glenmore Rooftop, Sweeny’s Hotel Rooftop, Sweethearts Rooftop, or even Coogee Pavilion. All beautiful locations with some great tunes and pretty lights. For a dance however, On a saturday night Pacha at the Ivy features great House DJ’s (like Tchami last weekend) with lots of buffed up dudes too and a minimum $20 entry fee World Bar’s CAKES, and Kit and Kaboodle, will always deliver, otherwise…..Meanwhile in Erskinville has just come up on the scene, with no lockout and deep house all night long. Two weekends ago, our boy Emoh Instead spun some tracks along with some local DJ’s. Much recommendation.
If you hate mainstream music or any music that is well-known to any large amounts of people then you should attend the monthly event FLUX. Presented by Fling Fling and Flow-Fi, the party is held in a different location each month, with the location released on the day to those who have signed up/bought tickets. Super dooper underground, and crazy music that you won’t even care about after all the weed you just smoked. Check out a few pics by Voena below.
You just want to party
If you are one of those easy going characters that just want to get drunk and have a dance then these are some good places to go (especially if you don’t care about the music). Cargo Lounge & Bar, Beresford Hotel, Beach Hotel Bondi, The Workers Balmain, Slip Inn, and Shark Bar at Manly (For all the Northern Beaches locals who refuse to go to the city)
For a good day sesh, theres always One Day Sundays and The Island Bar Cockatoo Island.
Well, there you have it, a few ideas for your weekend activities that don’t involve going to Soho for some cheap drinks and a quick hook up with the fresh group of 18 year olds.
Party Hard xx
